Shorouk City is a new Egyptian city, one of the third generation cities, located in Cairo Governorate, and administratively affiliated with the New Urban Communities Authority. It was established by decision of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt No. 326 of 1995. The establishment of the city was within the framework of the Egyptian state’s efforts for urban expansion to achieve several development goals, The most important of which is accommodating the increasing population numbers to relieve population pressure, redistributing the population within the Greater Cairo region, and at the same time raising the standard of living of the region’s residents, by providing new job opportunities from industrial projects, which will be established in the city. The city is located in the eastern Cairo region and is bordered to the north by the Egypt-Ismailia Road, to the south by the Cairo-Suez Desert Road, to the east it is bordered by Badr City and the Regional Ring Road, and to the west it is bordered by the Ring Road, with a total area of 53 thousand acres.

The existing area of Shorouk City is approximately 16,110 acres. The city’s residential activity area is 6,900 acres, divided into a group of neighborhoods, including all levels of housing (economic - average - upper average - luxury). The New Urban Communities Authority also provides residential plots of land. For individuals, as well as for investment companies and residential resorts, as well as pioneering projects such as the Mubarak Housing Project, the Future Association Housing Project, and free housing and family housing projects. The Authority also created 26,140 housing units, including 13,676 youth and future housing units, and the non-governmental sector created a number 25,147 housing units. The area of service activity is 1,500 acres, as the city’s urban planning provides plots of land for various services (educational, health, cultural, religious, entertainment, and commercial).

Drinking water and sanitation
The city is fed with drinking water through the 10th of Ramadan City water purification station, with a current capacity of 70,000 m3/day, and it is being increased to 90,000 m3/day. Water line 1400 is being implemented from the city’s 10th station to increase its drinking water capacity, and water line 1000 is being implemented. mm from the Obour City station to fulfill drinking water needs. A well station with a capacity of 3000 m3/day was implemented, as the city contains water networks with a length of 760 km.
Sewage is treated by a sewage treatment plant (Highstep) with a capacity of 27 thousand m3/day, and it is being developed to become a tertiary treatment plant. The first phase of a tertiary treatment plant is being implemented to provide pure water used in irrigation for drinking purposes. The city also has sewage networks along 540 km.
